Amazon Dash Makes Grocery Shopping Amazing

Online retailer Amazon.com has announced Amazon Dash, the portable grocery shopping list for the digital age.

Dash is a handheld device that can be used to scan barcodes from everyday items already in your home. Alternatively, Dash also comes equipped with a built-in recording device so you can simply speak the name of the item into the microphone for future reference.

And of course, Dash connects to your home’s Wi-Fi network in order to sync with the other aspect of the new gadget: the service.

Amazon Dash automatically coordinates with AmazonFresh–the same-day, early morning Amazon delivery service for groceries and select Amazon.com items.

By scanning your item or speaking its name into the Dash, your AmazonFresh grocery list is created from more than 500,000 items, allowing you to then review, schedule delivery and place the order from the AmazonFresh website or associated smartphone applications.

Here’s the rub: the current trial for Dash is by invitation only. If you don’t receive a coveted golden ticket in the form a of 10-digit Amazon Dash invitation code, you’re going to have to continue to write down the contents of your shopping needs like some kind of savage, at least for now.

Further pulling the future of grocery shopping just out of reach is the fact that AmazonFresh currently only services the greater Seattle, Southern California, and San Francisco areas. Those who aren’t in one of the aforementioned major population centers need not apply just yet.

Late last year Amazon revealed Prime Air, a new delivery service utilizing unmanned aerial drones to deliver packages to customers’ doorsteps within “30 minutes or less.” The online retailer hopes to begin commercial operations by 2015, which, in conjunction with Amazon Dash, means we could be seeing airdropped bananas and bath tissue in the very near future.

The Amazon Prime subscription service will also see its first price increase in 9 years; the membership plan includes perks like free 2-day delivery on select items from the online retailer.

The New Way to Shop From Home

Every member of the family can use Dash to easily add items to your AmazonFresh shopping list. Keep it on your kitchen counter or hang it on the refrigerator. Did your kids just eat the last of the cereal? Conveniently refill and restock your home’s everyday essentials, and have fun doing it.
