Amazon, the world’s largest digital store, has inaugurated its new Customer Service Center in Viale Monastir in Cagliari, Sardinia. Gabriele Masili, Director of Customer Service at Amazon, is from Cagliari: the speaker mentions that he probably influenced the company’s choice of location. Mr. Masili has made the following official statement: “We have already received thousands of applications from highly talented people from the area: this demonstrated that Sardinia is an excellent territory.” The speaker mentions that Amazon’s arrival is one of the very few positive bits of news that Sardinians have received lately — given that the company keeps its word. The center will be open 24/7 throughout the year, and is supposed to take on 500 new employees during the next five years, 150 of which by the end of 2013. Sixty employees are already operating. As of now the center takes up 2.700 square meters but it’ll soon be enlarged; it hosts not only customer service staff but also technical staff and managers: Amazon is still looking for personnel, so those who would like to apply for a job can do so through the company’s website. Those who have already taken part in the selections report that the interviews are severe, especially when it comes to knowing English.
