In this video Seller Essentials shows you How to add a sales tax exemption to your Amazon Account.
One strategy to find products to resell on Amazon or eBay is to look on Amazon for items selling far below what they normally do. If you are going to buy products from Amazon.com to resell, I would recommend setting up a separate Non-Prime buying-only account just for your AZ to AZ flips.
One of the main reasons to do this is that you can add your sales tax exemption/reseller’s certificate to you buying account. Doing this allows you to buy all of your AZ purchases that are for resale tax free.
How do you do this? It’s pretty simple.
Log in to your Amazon account first. Then click where it welcomes you with “Hello, XXXX” and “Your Account” directly under it at the top right side of your screen. Once you click on this, your account options will show up.
Go to the third box down titled, “Settings.” In this box, you will see “Amazon Tax Exemption Program” in the left hand column. Click this, and you will be walked through the application process. On the next screen, click “Edit Your Tax Exemptions.”
Once you do this, it will ask you to choose the state where your Tax ID was issued. Select your state, and click “Save and Continue.” The next page will ask you what type of tax exempt organization you are. Select “Resale” unless you have a different tax exempt code. Click “Save and Continue” again.
On the next screen, make sure the correct form is in the row under “Form Name.” This will differ from state to state. Now hit “Continue.”
From here you simply fill in all of the information about your organization, click “Save and Continue” and then upload your tax exempt form. They will ask you to review everything to make sure all of the information is accurate, and then you sign electronically and submit.
Now you are ready to purchase resale deals on Amazon without paying tax.
One other important note: It is Amazon’s policy that you may not use PRIME shipping to ship your items that you intend to resell. You can use the Free Super Saver Shipping option though. You’ll need to order at least $35 worth of merchandise to be able to take advantage of this Free Shipping option. This option is not available with a Prime account, so to be sure you are in compliance, set up a separate buyer account. Even selecting the slow shipping method with Prime is not within the policy guidelines, since Amazon gives you a free gift with that option. You must be using a non-Prime account in order to be in compliance.
