Just ahead of another busy shopping season, Walmart confirmed that it has updated its price-matching policy company-wide to allow its retail stores to match the prices from nearly any online retailer, including top competitor Amazon. The new policy is meant to extend the informal price-matching store managers have already implemented at local stores, in addition to the Ad Matching policy that has Walmart matching the prices from local brick-and-mortar retailers’ advertised sales. The move is aimed at cutting down on the practice of “showrooming,” where consumers check out physical products at local stores, then shop for a better deal on the web.

Amazon’s Strange New Dash Button for Impulse-ordering: ‘Indeed, it is Real’

For a few minutes on Tuesday, it seemed like Amazon might actually have a sense of humor. The online shopping giant announced a new hardware product called the Dash Button. It’s a little hook, decorated with the name of a household brand, which customers can place on the wall and tap to automatically order a specific product. Amazon has long been trying to turn our lives into one never-ending impulse shopping experience, but this effort sounded almost too literal. That, combined with the fact it was announced one day before April Fools’ Day, may explain why many on Twitter questioned if the buttons were simply a joke. However, a rep for Amazon told Mashable by email, “indeed it is real.”

Amazon Studios Acquiring Spike Lee Film as Its 1st Release

Amazon Studios says it has acquired Spike Lee’s new film as its first Amazon Original Movie. The film, with the working title “Chi-Raq,” features a cast including Nick Cannon, Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Hudson and Teyonah Parris, as well as D.B. “Chi-Raq” was shot entirely in Chicago and wrapped last week. Amazon Original Movies, which was announced in January, was formed to produce and acquire original movies for theatrical release as well as distribution to its Amazon Prime members.
