Just ahead of another busy shopping season, Walmart confirmed that it has updated its price-matching policy company-wide to allow its retail stores to match the prices from nearly any online retailer, including top competitor Amazon. The new policy is meant to extend the informal price-matching store managers have already implemented at local stores, in addition to the Ad Matching policy that has Walmart matching the prices from local brick-and-mortar retailers’ advertised sales. The move is aimed at cutting down on the practice of “showrooming,” where consumers check out physical products at local stores, then shop for a better deal on the web.

Amazon is set to lose out on more than £2.7 million in the run-up to Christmas, according to a group campaigning for people in the UK to refrain from purchasing products from the online retailer. Amazon Anonymous is asking people to go Amazon-free for the holiday season and says 12,000 people so far have pledged to do their shopping elsewhere. The group, started by three former Amazon customers, told Mashable that, on average, people are pledging not to spend £100 with the company.

Wal-Mart Stores is launching an online discount sale on Wednesday to counter Amazon.com’s highly-publicized “Prime Day”, a shopping event for members of its Amazon Prime service on the same day. The world’s largest retailer also cut the size of the minimum order eligible for free shipping to $35 from $50 for at least 30 days. Spokesman Bao Nguyen said, the discount sale will offer rollback prices, or discounts, on more than 2,000 items including electronics, toys, baby and home products for three months.
