TOP 10 WAYS TO SCREW UP YOUR EBAY OR AMAZON ACCOUNT:

1. Ship item without a tracking number (or signature now).
2. Ignore customer emails because you don’t know how to answer them.
3. When a customer complains, instead of trying to solve the problem, you just take a return (numbskull move).
4. You pack your item very sloppily and it breaks in the mail.
5. You ship them a cheaply made imitation version.
6. You do not plan well for a vacation (forget to fully turn off/pause your Ebay and that even though you are on vacation, you shoudl check your emails maybe every other day just in case).
7. You describe your item wrongly. This is a great way to ruin your record on Ebay/Amazon.
8. You don’t wait until the right time to call ebay up to raise your limits..
9. You have a spike of sales or revenue changes to your account without gradually increasing/changing things.
10. You carelessly log into your Ebay account from a public computer or at your friends house (who just happen to have been kicked off ebay in the past).

1. Not maximizing their profits. Take the time to do a few completed item searches on your item, so as to avoid over pricing and also under pricing your item.

If you do a completed item search, you can easily identify the highest price it sold for in the last two weeks by simply “sorting by highest first” and then looking for the top Green prices (Green means sale).

2. Not creating an optimal title. The best thing you can do for your item, is make sure you use as many good keywords as possible and to make sure you spell them correctly.

If you do some searches on Ebay and notice a keyword that others are not really using, but it is popular, put it in your title. This way you can get some traffic they are missing.

3. Not finding a good source for product or getting despirate and paying too high of prices for product. ALways take into consideration the price the item can sell for. When you are out, say at Goodwill or a garage sale, make sure to have your smartphone with you so you can look up what the item can sell for on ebay.

Also, make sure to sort by highest price first and check the completed item history box, as this is the only sure way to know what the item will sell for on ebay.

You can even use Ebay in this manner for figuring pricing to list an item on amazon.com.

There are also returns/overstocks and closeouts you can by from the chain stores, if you use certain liquidatin companies. Often the pricing is around 30% of the wholesale price.

4. Forgetting to relist the items you just sold or did not sell. Make sure to use some of Ebay’s automation features for items you have more than one of. Keep your auctions always continually going up, because, if you forget to list it, there is not going to be any sales.

It sounds really simple, but this is something a lot of people do. You want to keep the profits flowing in by having consistant amounts of auctions going up.

5. Continually relisting an item that does not sell. This is a good way to loose money to Ebay. If anything, you should figure out why the item is not selling and either improve the listing, or just throw the item in your store, where it can sell without you having to pay for listing fees.

Now, its not the listing fees that are the big deal, as they are low on ebay these days. However, the very fact you are being lazy and not improving the ad, is costing you the opportunity of selling it.

6. Not properly packing an item, getting insurance and forgetting to get tracking. This is a really good way to loose money. If the item breaks because of poor packaging and you do not have insurance, you are basically out the item, as paypal will have you refund the customer. Also, forgetting to put part of what was included in the box, could really hurt you if there was a dispute.

And with no tracking, one could just file a dispute on Paypal and if you could not prove you shipped it to him, you could loose the money that way as well.

7. Learn from your mistakes. This is a big one. I think many don’t want to go that extra mile. But really, that extra mile, after you already went 10 miles is well worth it, considering the fact that you could easily double or triple your profits, just simply thinking through how to improve what you have going already.

8. Not answering your email. This can be huge as well. Whether it is answering a pressing question, before they bid on your item, or a problem with an order.

Especially if there is a problem with an order that you could easily solve by writing an email or doing some sort of quick fix (like a small partial refund, etc).

Also, you could easily piss off a customer by ignoring them and receive a negative.

9. Don’t play the low price game. There are two types of customers. One that looks for the low price.. And the other is the quality customer. ALWAYS FOCUS on the quality customer. Always price near what the customer is most willing to spend.

Again, as I mentioned before, look at the completed item history and sort by highest price first to see what people are willing to pay for your item.

10. Follow Ebay’s Rules. Because Ebay has been becoming a more strict place to sell, make sure you are always in line with their rules.

Also, learn sort of how they operate, and how they view things, such as what will happen if there is a certain type of dispute and such.

Such little pieces of information can help you in the long run to maximize your security and your profits as a business on ebay or amazon.com.
