Top 7 Reasons to Use Amazon For Really Important Purchases

I make almost every thoughtful purchase these days on Amazon. I’ve purchased everything from a 52″ LCD HDTV to a pair of skull candy INK’d earbuds from Amazon. By far the top reason I use Amazon for important purchases are (1) An incredible returns policy and (2) Purchase price protection.

With regards to the Amazon returns policy, in the event the product you purchase does not meet your expectations, or a variety of other reasons, Amazon makes it incredibly simple to return the merchandise for a full refund. They even pay shipping! What’s more, the returns process could not be simpler. You merely print out a return shipment label and send the item off back to Amazon. One caveat though, this is only available on items which are marked “ships and sold by Amazon” so if you buy from a marketplace partner or a third party, you should check their returns policy for details.

In terms of purchase price protection, if the price of the item you purchased falls below your purchase price, within the returns window period, Amazon will refund the difference to your account immediately. This one takes a quick email to Amazon support but I’ve found the process to be quick and effective. If you are interested in taking advantage of price protection, you will need to set up an account at one of the many third party websites that track Amazon prices changes. These sites will allow you to enter multiple Amazon products to track and send you an email when the price falls below your purchase price.

So here’s the top 7 reasons I shop on Amazon:

Returns are incredibly easy — online automated returns
Purchase price protection — with a simple email
Prices are the best anywhere — especially on items marked “shipped and sold by Amazon”
No tax! (in most states)
Free shipping (on millions of products and orders totaling $25 or more
Reviews from actual product owners — there’s nothing like “social proof”
One click ordering — Amazon is easy to do business with, rival retailers could learn a lot from their ordering process
