After Flipkart’s failed bid to impress customers, Amazon and Snapdeal out to woo buyers with discounts

After Flipkart’s recent fiasco in the form of the Big Billion Day sale, it is now the turn of e-commerce websites Snapdeal and Amazon to hold day-long mega sales, bringing the focus back on questionable deals.

Like its October 6 sale, Snapdeal is offering offer hourly deals on November 11, such as the HTC Desire 8 (16GB) mobile for a lowly Rs 15,999 as compared to its competitors, who are asking for anywhere between Rs 16,500 to Rs 25,000. Snapdeal has also introduced the Rs 299 and Rs 499 stores, where customers will get cool fashion accessories at much lower prices than other e-retailers. The site is also giving 5% cashback to HDFC card holders and 10% to Standard Chartered card holders for four days.

Amazon has not made its ‘Appiness Day’ sale available to all its customers, choosing instead to offer the deals to only those who use their mobile app. Visitors to the website will be prompted to download and install the app to be able to avail of the offers.

Amazon is trying to increase subscribers to its app by offering the chance to win 11 months of free shopping worth Rs 11,000 each month if one buys through the application. The online shopping giant is also offering 10% cashback to HDFC card holders and a FreeCharge cashback worth Rs 111 (on a minimum Rs 100 recharge from FreeCharge) to anyone who signs into the Amazon India mobile app between November 7 and November 11.

Flipkart’s October 6 big billion Day sale left hundreds of customers extremely dissatisfied after prices on sale items were increased or were sold at the prices listed before the sale, the e-retailer ran out of stock for several products which were in high demand, and the site experienced several technical errors, including the servers crashing. The ‘Big Billion Day’ sale received more flak than praise when it ended.
